Hate to disagree Reviewed by Hayley Solich, 2008-01-25 Hate to disagree with Peur Evol - I think that's how you spell it, but I've got a lot of article sitting at number one and not because that's where they landed when I loaded them. They are there because they got rated up there. I don't devote hardly any time to rating because I'm too busy. I have made money from the site, by competing in their Channel competitions, listing articles for the marketplace and generally writing smartly - to a formula that I know works on the internet. Helium is a great site for being validated and encouraged. So many publishing sites want something from you in the way of finance or reject you based on some unspoken rules that I just have never understood. Helium offers everyone the chance to have their writing read and for others to give them feedback. That is what is important, in my opinion. I have just been featured on the home page for Helium.com this week, and I have to say that it has worked for me in terms of getting traffic to my sites, my blogs and even personal emails through the website to encourage me. All of these things have value to me. So, given the outcome of being encouraged, motivated and paid by Helium.com, I think I can safely say that I'm a happy customer. Also, by the way, when you write, you actually enter the field in the middle, not the number one slot. If a five word article was promoted to number one ranking, perhaps you have to think about your word usage. After all, less is best!
helium-where knowledge doesn't rule Reviewed by peur evol, 2007-02-06 My review is very simple. Go look at this ite for yourself. I tried contributing to this site for awhile. It does not work. Check out their FAQ section. Only the users who spend the majority of their browsing time rating their articles for them even have a slim chance of making money from this site. From their own FAQ: "How are articles rated? Writers like you (not editors or Helium) rate the articles on Helium. You can be actively involved in raising the best information to the top. When you enter an article to an article title, you have the opportunity to rate other articles. You also have a special Rate button for any time you feel like doing some rating. Keep in mind, the more ratings you provide, the more your submissions will be rated and the better your chances are to make it to the top of the list." Got that last bit? Your contributions are only eligible for rating equivalent to the amount of ratings that YOU provide. In simple terms, If you don't commit yourself to rating several hours a day, you won't even get the chance to be rated. Also there is a default setting that automatically ranks the very newest submission at the #1 position. Wrote a very clever and authoritative piece? Too bad, replaced by a five word entry in twenty seconds. To sum up this review, GOOD IDEA, BAD EXECUTION. |
